Complementary medicine healing technique corrects imbalances in the flow of vital energy via bioenergetics

Bioenergy is based on the concept that human beings are infused with a subtle form of vital energy, or life force, which is known under different names in different cultures. In traditional Chinese medicine, qi is the vital energy or life force proposed to regulate a person's spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health. Practices such as the use of herbs, meditation, massage and acupuncture seek to aid healing by restoring the yin-yang balance and the flow of qi. Ayurvedic medicine, reiki and acupressure are other forms of bioenergetic medicine.

Practitioners of energy medicine believe that health conditions result from disturbances of subtle energies, meridians, which flow throughout the human body. For example, acupuncture, acupressure and cupping are all believed to act by correcting imbalances in the internal biofield, such as by restoring the flow of qi through meridians to support health.
