At Enzymes, Inc., we're just as concerned about the condition of the planet as we are the health of our customers and their patients. After all, a healthful environment — whether in our homes, cities or countries — only helps improve the lives of those it supports.

And as a company committed to sustaining human health, we also believe it's our responsibility to consciously upgrade, and continuously adapt, our business practices to help maintain the natural beauty of the earth. Here's a look at some of the steps we've taken so far, as well as our future goals, as a green company.

A corporate commitment

Enzymes, Inc., is grounded, literally, in using the earth's natural properties to conserve and control energy consumption. Our offices and warehouse are in a unique underground location, decreasing the amount of energy required for heating and cooling during the hottest and coldest times of the year.

We're also considering alternative work schedules, along with carbon offsets, as ways to further reduce our effect on the environment. Our commitment to exceptional customer service parallels our dedication to protecting the earth, and that's why we're eagerly seeking ways to cut our carbon footprint.

Focus on sustainable alternatives

While sticking with the status quo might be the easiest and most economical way to do business, it can sometimes be the most costly to our environment. For example, billions of the same plastic bags we've relied on for years to carry our groceries and other goods end up polluting our soil and waterways. What's more, production of these toxin-laden bags involves a tremendous amount of oil, which further contributes to our energy woes.

At Enzymes, Inc., we've decided to offer reusable and 100% recyclable bags at tradeshows and other events. We're also considering earth-friendly biodegradable bags, production of which helps conserve our nation's energy resources. And with that in mind, Enzymes, Inc., has always used bottles and other packaging materials that are recyclable or made from recycled materials.

Environmentally sound production methods

Our eco-friendly, 100% vegetarian products tread lightly on the planet, as we obtain ingredients from all-natural sources and harvest none of our enzymes from the organs of dead animals. In fact, extraction of the main ingredient in one of our most popular products, NutriSol™ Joint Care Plus™ aids the environment in many ways. The ingredient Natural Eggshell Membrane™ comes from the inside of eggshells that would normally fill landfills by the thousands. Instead, egg byproducts are recycled, and the result is improved human health.

Individual responsibility

Our environmental commitment also spills over to Enzymes, Inc., employees, who take it upon themselves to ensure we're staying true to our corporate philosophies. Whether it's carpooling, internal recycling or the strategic use of office resources, employees have found ways to improve our environmental accountability.

For example, electronic filing of sales orders has helped Enzymes, Inc., save thousands of sheets of paper per month, and a simple decision to redesign and use both sides of sales flyers has eliminated the use of about 500 sheets per month. In addition, office and warehouse lights are turned off when not in use, a conscious decision that cuts our main electricity use down to less than 12 hours a day.
