Ortho-Bionomy
Ortho-Bionomy is the combination of movement and gentle compression of the body to promote relief of stress and pain associated with structural imbalances. A practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy works with the body’s natural ability to reprogram the neuromuscular process, and thus, no force that would create bodily discomfort is used in the therapy. Similar to homeopathy, which seeks to stimulate the body's ability to heal itself, Ortho-Bionomy employs the concept that “what cannot be cured from within cannot be cured from without.”
Dr. Arthur Lincoln Pauls developed Ortho-Bionomy and started teaching it in the U.S. in 1976. Pauls, a British osteopath, has taught the therapy across Europe. Ortho-Bionomy has three meanings: Ortho stands for correct or straight, Bio means life and nomy represents “study of.” Ortho-Bionomy could help with acute or chronic pain through the release of muscle tension, improved circulation and whole-body relaxation.
