Polarity Therapy
Like forms of traditional Chinese medicine, Polarity Therapy emphasizes balance in the energy field of the human body. It is believed that pain or health conditions emerge when the correct flow of energy is blocked. Practitioners believe in the body’s natural ability to heal itself, whether the concern in mental, emotional or physical. Polarity Therapy includes principles of Ayurvedic Medicine, Chakra Balancing and yin and yang, two natural forces that when balanced can unblock the flow of qi, or vital energy.
Polarity Therapy, developed by a Dr. Randolph Stone, focuses on three types of energy fields: Long-line currents that run from top to bottom; transverse currents that go side to side; and spiral currents, which extend outward from the navel. To balance these energy fields, practitioners employ energy-based bodywork, diet, exercise and self-awareness. Factors such as touch, sound, attitude, life experiences and the environment are thought to directly affect energy flow in the body.
In an effort to promote natural healing, practitioners use gentle bodywork with minimal force. They also teach patients to practice “Polarity Yoga” and provide them with counseling on diet and nutrition. Although the theory relates to osteopathy and chiropractic, it relies more on energy fields than mechanical force to promote good health.
