Thermography (breast)
Thermographic imaging, or Thermography, gauges temperatures on the surface of the skin to aid in diagnosis, particularly for the evaluation of breast-cancer risk. Areas of the body, or breasts, that might cause problems measure hotter than those that are healthy. The pain-free screening approach, which relies on infrared imaging, uses no radiation.
Thermographic cameras, first developed by the military for night vision, can be used to monitor breast cancer risk along with other types of screening tests. According to WebMD, some studies suggest thermography detects vascular changes that can indicate cancer development. Creative Wellness Center in Kansas City, Mo., claims that 70% of the time, breast thermography can detect cancer before a mammogram.
